In an effort to improve the relationship between law enforcement officers and the community members they serve, BBBS recently launched its "Bigs in Blue" program in which elementary and middle school students are paired with police officers who act as the children’s “Bigs” and provide weekly mentoring. After piloting Bigs in Blue at several branches in 2016, the organization expanded the program nationally in January 2017.
BBBS currently is working to raise the funds needed to implement Bigs in Blue in a third of its 300 local affiliates. To date, BBBS has collected more than $1 million toward its goal of $5 million to fully develop the program. To learn about supporting Bigs in Blue, visit www.bbbs.org.
